Craniosacral therapy (CST, or just cranio) is an exceptionally gentle yet powerful form of treatment which interacts with deep, inherent healing forces within the body.

The body has self-healing capabilities and is constantly striving for good health. Craniosacral Therapy can facilitate this natural propensity for balance and a feeling of wellbeing in the client. This self-healing potential can be encouraged to counteract the effects of injury, disease, trauma or stress.

CST has its roots in the work of osteopath William Garner Sutherland (1873-1954), who observed that the cranial bones have a very subtle rhythmic motion, and that the cerebrospinal fluid that bathes our brain and our nervous system has its own ‘pulse’. He termed this system Primary Respiration.

How it works

Craniosacral therapists work with the presence of subtle rhythmic motions that are expressed within the body (particularly the head and the pelvis). Therapist uses very gentle touch, ‘listening’ with their hands to detect these subtle, formative forces. The free and balanced expression of these subtle motions is related to our state of health and vitality.

The therapist can evaluate if there are any imbalances within the body and use a range of non-invasive therapeutic skills to relax and thereby promote self-healing within the client.

The therapy is suitable for people of all ages and because it's a complimentary therapy, it works perfectly well alongside any other type of conventional or holistic treatment.
